Our History

The OUTnorthLa Film Festival, launched by PACE (People Acting for Change and Equality) in 2009, is a cornerstone of our mission to create an inclusive and supportive environment for the LGBTQ+ community in Shreveport, Louisiana, and beyond.
 

Inspired by the need to combat discrimination and promote visibility, OUTnorthLa serves as a dynamic platform for showcasing LGBTQ+ stories and experiences. Our festival is not just an event; it’s a movement that uses the power of film to foster understanding, celebrate diversity, and challenge societal norms.

Since its debut, OUTnorthLa has become a significant cultural event, drawing attention from local and national audiences. The festival's impact extends beyond entertainment; it has played a crucial role in advancing LGBTQ+ rights in our region. Through the visibility and discussions generated by the festival, we have catalyzed important changes, including the introduction of nondiscrimination policies in Shreveport.
 

The festival’s success has increased media coverage and recognition, including features in major local publications and consistent support from city leaders. For example, former Mayor Cedric Glover has attended every opening night reception since our inaugural year, and the festival’s advocacy helped secure the issuance of a pivotal nondiscrimination executive order in 2009.

 

In addition to influencing policy, OUTnorthLa has provided a space for LGBTQ+ individuals to be seen and heard, contributing to a broader cultural shift. Our commitment to celebrating and elevating LGBTQ+ voices has transformed Shreveport's perception, integrating the LGBTQ+ community into the city’s artistic and civic fabric.
